A beautiful area, with an abundance of green spaces, Kingston upon Thames is idyllic for families with a strong community feel and picturesque streets. There is varied architecture in Kingston upon Thames, there are not only Victorian and Edwardian buildings, but its Tudor heritage is apparent in the houses surrounding Market Place. Here there are many homes that date back to the 17th C, the oldest building in the area does in fact date as far back as the 15th C.

There is a medley of modern and historic homes in the area; it is a large University town, with a number of students residing in this town, which is 10 miles away from Central London.

Kingston upon Thames attracts families in search of peace in the city, although in recent years young professionals have flocked here lured by the picturesque riverside and vibrant culture that exists within the town. Seen by many as a prime location in the city, the education is second to none, with both state and private schools a cut above the rest, when families move in to the area they tend not to leave.

In terms of Secondary schools there is also a good range including Bedelsford, Coombe Girls School and Dysart School, which also all achieved ‘outstanding’ from Ofsted.
There is an extensive range of shops to peruse; including John Lewis and Waitrose, there is a very busy shopping centre in the area. Kingston upon Thames also boasts a magnificent market in Market Place from Monday to Saturday. In Bentall Centre there are a number of chain stores and it is home to it’s own department store. There is also Eden Walk shopping centre, and a market in the Cattle Market car park every Monday. For those who like to keep fit there is the Kingfisher Leisure Centre on Fairfield Road.
Places to visit near Kingston Upon Thames
Kingston upon Thames is ideally situated to enjoy some lovely nearby neighbourhoods, which include Surbiton, where there is Maple Road Farmers Market on the third Saturday of each month. Fishponds and Alexandra Parks are situated here, as is Hampton Court Palace nearby. Close by is Twickenham, home to the famous rugby stadium and Wimbledon, the location of the tennis tournament. Wimbledon is a particularly picturesque neighbourhood with many independent shops and a good selection of restaurants and cafes to dine out at. For idyllic riverside walks head to Richmond, where you are in easy reach of the Royal Botanic Gardens of Kew and Kew Palace.
