Chic, cool and popular as well as maintaining a sophisticated charm Islington’s streets are lined with stunning period houses. The sought after Canonbury and Barnsbury neighbourhoods are in Islington, both of which are quiet residential areas, in Barnsbury Lonsdale Square and Thornhill Square are both particularly desirable residential areas.

Camden Passage is great for antique and vintage shops and quirky boutiques. There is a Marks and Spencer’s, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose among the large supermarkets within the area.

You’ll find a farmers market every Sunday in Islington and there are several libraries in the area. There is Highbury Pool and Gym, and a number of outdoor gyms and other national gyms for those who like to keep fit.  There are 30 acres of sporting facilities, spaces and play areas in Highbury Fields.

Islington is home to forty plus primary schools, including three academies, the most popular schools seeming to be St Mary Magdalene Academy and St Mary’s. St Aloysius College is a desirable all boys school, private schools are available in nearby Hampstead and Highgate.

Places to visit near Islington

Hyde Park is extremely close; here you’ll find Alexandra Palace. Eccentric Camden Town is close by, with Camden Market, which receives 500,000 plus visitors a week. Camden market is made up of six adjoining markets, and it is one of London’s most popular attractions, the market started in 1974 and includes Camden Stables Market and Camden Lock Market.  Islington is also home to the well renowned London Ballet School.

Near by is Hampstead, and the wide expanse that is Hampstead Heath, after a walk and picnic on the Heath, the impressive Kenwood House in Hampstead built in 1764 is worthy of a visit. London Canal Museum is also in North London for an interesting history lesson.
