A substantial suburban area in east London, Dagenham is an urban hub as well as boasting some beautiful scenic areas. Often thought of as part of Essex, it is in fact part of Greater London. Dagenham has a myriad of properties to choose from when renting, including early 20th C homes, terraces and flats.

Becontree Estate was built post World War I, it aimed to replace the slums of the East End, during this development 27,000 homes were created that could house up to 100,000 people, now a days it seems to attract a myriad of tenants including students. Dagenham Village is a mixture of architecture, some parts quaint ancient village, alongside the biggest council estate in the UK.

Dagenham Heathway and Dagenham Docks have a number of purpose built military buildings in the area, all of which tend to be post World War I, there is however also new developments. There are apartments to rent in the recent development on Academy Way, near Maysebrook Park. Semi-detached and terraces are common in Dagenham, and it is an increasingly sought after area in regards to the rental market due to its affordability and relatively close proximity to the centre of London.

Famous for the Ford car manufacturing plant, this industry has dominated Dagenham’s image. Dagenham is a mix of rural and suburbia, which has been plagued by poverty over the years, the area is fairly remote but it is still extremely diverse, with a mixture of cultures, employment and lifestyle. There is a large Irish contingency here and some lovely historic buildings, with nice country homes alongside expansive green spaces.

Secondary schools include All Saints Catholic School and Technology College, Dagenham Park CofE School and Eastbrook Comprehensive School.

Dagenham is home to the Heathway Shopping Centre; open seven days a week, there are a number of chain stores in the centre. In terms of supermarkets Lidl, Iceland, Asda and The Co-op are all in the vicinity for groceries. Dagenham Library is located on Church Elm Lane. There are plenty of green spaces to enjoy in the area, including Central Park, Valence Park, Old Dagenham Park; the nature reserves Beam Valley Country Park and Dagenham Village Churchyard are also nearby.

Within the borough of Barking and Dagenham, a small area on the outskirts of central London, there is plenty to enjoy. Home to a number of historic sites and benefitting from the countryside in Essex, which is close by. Dagenham is neighboured by Barking, Ilford, Romford, Rainham and Hornchurch. Close to the Thames Gateway, Rainham Marshes RSPB Reserve and Stratford’s Westfield Shopping Centre.
