Discover the history of Croydon at the Museum of Croydon, which also couples as a music, theatre and arts venue. Croydon is home to Whitgift Shopping Centre; it is a very large shopping centre, with over 140 restaurants and shops, both a mixture of independent and high street. There is also the Croydon Clock Tower, which inside is an arts centre and museum, as well as being home to a café, bar and cinema.
Fairfield Halls on Park Lane is a concert hall, art gallery and theatre; it showcases events throughout the year including dance, comedy, film and musical concerts. There is a cinema at Grants Department store with 10 screens, and for sporting types there are golf clubs near by. Waddon Leisure Centre is a public swimming pool near Croydon; there are however private pools in Croydon and two Virgin Active health clubs in the area.
Croydon Restaurant & Bars
For restaurants there is ‘Albert’s Table’, which is in the Michelin food guide, and considered very good by those who frequent here, it is in South Croydon. ‘Chennai Dosa’ on London Road is perfect for South Indian food; ‘Thanh’s Bistro’ serves delicious Vietnamese cuisine. For Italian book a table at ‘La Spezia’ and for curry ‘Malay House’.
Head to ‘Cadillac Diner’ with its all American theme, where they serve dishes inspired by the food you’ll find in Texas, New York and Chicago, it is the ideal place to call if you’re craving a burger. For coffee you cannot beat the ‘Smooth Bean’. The pubs in Croydon that sell a good variety of ales, wine and spirits are ‘The Oval Tavern’, ‘The Green Dragon’, ‘Dog Bull’ and ‘Matthews Yard’.
