Not known so much as a family friendly area, it is more likely to attract young people and highflying couples who like the convenience of being able to walk to work. Canary Wharf benefits from good transport links, an excellent choice of shops, restaurants, cafes and good leisure facilities, with regular events held in Canary Wharf throughout the year.
State schools near Canary Wharf generally always receive good results, ‘Bygrove’ received outstanding from Ofsted, as did Canary Wharf College and Sir William Burrough; Canary Wharf College takes children from reception all the way through their education. There is a private Montessori School in Mill Harbour. With regard to comprehensive schools there is St Paul’s Way, who achieved ‘outstanding’ from Ofsted, and George Green’s and Tower Hamlets College both achieving ‘good’ from Ofsted.
A very cosmopolitan area, E14 has a library at ‘Idea Store’, where you can also receive legal advice and careers advice. At the Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre you can partake in canoeing, windsurfing and sailing.
Places to visit near Canary Wharf
The Museum of London Docklands is located on the West India Quay in Tower Hamlets, centered around the history of the East End the museum explores the lives that were lead on the River Thames. The building in itself was once where imported sugar was stored.
The O2 is roughly 20 minutes away; the ‘Up at the O2’ walkway allows you to see the famous dome from 53 meters high. Only 15 minutes walk away is Surrey Docks Farm, and perfect for a family day out, with donkeys, sheep, goats, pigs, ducks, chickens and geese. This city farm in London is accessible by the scenic Thames clipper. Billingsgate Fish Market is also in nearby Poplar.
